Children can suffer from many of the same problems as adults, such as anxiety, sadness, and worry. Yet these troubles manifest behaviorally, often in the form of difficulties with attention or impulse control, which can lead to a misdiagnosis of ADHD and/or recommendations for medication. If your child is struggling with something and it has gotten your attention, this is a very good sign. This indicates that he/she is attempting to communicate with you, and our job together is to translate their behavior into understanding.

I will do a thorough evaluation and then offer you my impressions and recommendations, which may or may not include therapy. Sometimes all that is needed is parent consultation. I also work with divorced or separated couples who want to co-parent more effectively.
